Description

Halloween CSI Digital Math Mystery GAME. Your students can play the Case of The Halloween Heist in a digital game format. This resource is designed to be played on any device with an Internet connection (please read the technical tips section and try the free clue below to see if it works for you).

Mystery meets escape room with this style of game. Your students will need to discover passwords at the end of each clue in order to access the next clue. Your Teacher copy will contain all links and passwords.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Implementation Suggestion: Turn it into a competition to see who can solve the mystery first in your classroom OR set a timer with a limit that everyone must aim to beat to solve the case (or single clue if you prefer to break it up into smaller chunks).

MATH SKILLS:

There are THREE LEVELS of the game to choose to play! The Mystery outcome is different at the end of each level, and the clues are mostly different too. So you can choose to play all levels and the culprit will be different in each.

LEVEL 1

  • Clue 2: Multiplication Facts (10 Times Tables and 2 Times Tables only)
  • Clue 3: Convert Expanded Form to Standard Form - Triple-digit Numbers

  • Clue 5: Subtraction with no-regrouping (Double-Digit Numbers
  • Bonus ending round - Mental Math (Mix of addition and subtraction Questions)

LEVEL 2

  • Clue 1: Addition with regrouping (triple-digit numbers)

  • Clue 5: Divide by 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, or 10s Facts
  • Bonus ending round - Mental Math Mix of Times Tables and Division Facts

  • Clue 2: Multiplying Powers of Ten
  • Clue 3: Rounding Decimals

What's the same from the paper math mystery?

  • The video hook intro
  • Correct answering of math questions to unlock clues
  • Eliminating suspects in clues 1-4
  • Mystery solution is different

What's different from the paper math mystery?

  • No printing or photocopying required
  • The math questions are different
  • Lots of graphics
  • The answers are presented in multiple choices for students to search and find answers.
  • Clicking/tapping on the correct answer unlocks the letter and places it into the boxes for you instead of manual input.
  • Cannot clue jump, completion of each clue unlocks access to the next clue.
  • After clue 5, your student will be required to select the culprit!
  • A Bonus math round will begin after selecting the culprit.
  • A short video clip at the end of the game.
  • The mystery solution and clues are not the same as the paper copy
  • Cannot clue swap. Unlike my paper 'worksheet style' mysteries, the clues are different and the culprit is different at the end of each level.

Implementation suggestions

There are many ways to use this resource, some include:

  • Complete as a whole class on your Interactive Whiteboard. Students take it in turns to answer the questions.
  • Assign to your students to complete independently or in pairs on a device. This could be something they do as an early finisher task, during your math block, or for homework.

Sharing with Students

There are a few ways you may choose to share the game with your students:

  • The student pages with clickable links are available in EASEL by TPT. When opening Easel, choose which math level you want to keep (top corner marked L1, L2, and L3 for math levels) and delete the other level pages before assigning the game to your students.
  • Assign the Google Slide link provided via Google Classroom
  • Email the game links to your students.
  • Use the QR codes provided for students to scan. These can be printed or shown on the IWB for students to scan from.
  • Do as a class on the IWB with your access to the links only.
  • Direct URLs are also provided.
  • If all of the above fails, or if you need help, you can send an email to me and we can try to resolve the issue.

>>> Clue Access <<<

After completing a clue, students will be given a password to unlock the next clue link.

Math Level Access

After downloading the product, open the ZIP folder. Inside there are three folders, each labeled with a 'level.' Open the folder of the level you wish your students to work on and use the files with links provided in that folder.
