Description

Teach your students how to debate! Debating can be difficult for students, but this resource will teach your students how to debate like pros. It takes them through the steps of the process, so they learn how to make and support solid arguments in a persuasive manner. Check the preview for lots of detail on how you can use this for debates in your classroom.

LESSON ONE: an introduction to debates and a lesson on creating focused, clear, and supported arguments and claims

LESSON TWO: a practice session with a short, informal debate

LESSON THREE: students begin to learn about logical appeals (ethos, logos, and pathos) and how to avoid logical fallacies

LESSON FOUR: students will focus on the power of persuasion and learn how emotional appeals and rhetorical devices will help them win a debate

LESSON FIVE: students will begin to plan a debate with lots of graphic organizers, handouts, and examples to help them.
