    Core BUNDLE - Language Arts - Social Studies and Civics - Math - Science 5th Grade

    This CORE AREA resource provides parents, teachers, and homeschooling families with hundreds of progressive questions and answers that align with 5th Grade learning targets and content standards in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science.

    LANGUAGE ARTS: These ELA questions encompass SIGHT words, phonics, acronyms, Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, suffixes, punctuation, parts of speech, synonyms, antonyms, comparatives, superlatives, fragments, run-ons, imagery, hyperbole, symbols, alliteration, onomatopoeia, oxymorons, drama, comedies, tragedies, poetry, idioms, common sayings, essential grammar facts, and literary genres.

    SOCIAL STUDIES: Many of the social studies questions encompass geography, history, peoples, regions, and cultures. Specific 5th Grade questions cover the equator, tropics, hemispheres, meridians, north and south poles, weather, climate, bodies of water, maps, mountain ranges, landmasses, geographical regions, time zones, U.S. cities, states, countries, communities, monuments, landmarks, nationalities, languages, ancient civilizations, exploration, colonialization, trade, Renaissance art and architecture, emperors, Feudal system, early settlers, Mexican-American War, Abolitionists, Civil War, American Frontier, and what countries of the world are known for. Several of the questions related to specific states and countries are written as “mini-lessons.” Further exploration of the names and places in those questions is highly recommended and encouraged!

    CIVICS: The focus of this chapter is to prompt children to think about all levels of government, the role of the citizen, and the importance of becoming contributing members of the community, the state, and the nation. Specific questions cover the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the three branches of government, the powers of each level of government, and civic duties. Also included is a common version of the Practice Citizenship Test.

    SCIENCE: The science questions encompass a wide array of scientific topics including astronomy, biology, chemistry, Earth science, ecology, geology, physics, weather/climate, and zoology. Specific 5th grade questions include (but not limited to): the solar system; space travel; constellations; land masses; continents; minerals; atoms; molecules; elements; substance properties; plant and animal classifications; plants; cells; microorganisms; and notable scientists. These learning standards can easily be applied to the outside world. Exploration and experimentation are highly encouraged!

    MATH: These questions encompass general math, computation, algebra, and geometry. Specific 5th grade questions include (but not limited to): place value; Roman numerals; rounding; sum, difference, product, and quotient; integers; squares; square roots; exponents; prime and composite numbers; factorization; decimals; fractions; percentages; operations; properties; reciprocals; ratios; U.S. Customary Units; Metric System; measurement; line segments; polygons; and multi-dimensional shapes. Allowing for paper and pencil computation, and actually looking at the math questions is expected and encouraged if need be!

    Why Ask Me Smarter? Because it is kid-engaging in that the BRAIN cannot resist a question! Because it is a simplified and stream-lined format in interpreting an elementary school curriculum and prescribed learning targets! Because learning is optimized through progressive questioning and spaced retention! Because many of the questions reflect "I CAN" statements per grade level. Because it is a simple but important resource that serves to empower children with essential knowledge, making knowledge FUN-da-men-tal!
