What educators are saying

My students love this activity. It took me a minute to understand the bump games, but after getting the hang of it, I wanted to play with my students!
Used this as a center for my students to help them with classifying quadrilaterals. Students enjoyed it.

Description

Make practice fun with these classifying quadrilaterals by properties games! This Classifying Quadrilaterals Games Pack contains 10 different games (6 bump games and 4 three-in-a-row games) to help students practice identifying and classifying quadrilaterals. Within these quadrilaterals games, students practice matching the names of different types of quadrilaterals to images and to specific attributes.

These quadrilaterals games are so simple to use, and take a minimal amount of prep. Simply print out the game sheet and grab a dice, 2 game pieces, and 40 counters, and you'll be ready to go!

To play the bump games, students roll the dice to move their piece on the game board track. After rolling, they have to read the description/look at the image of the space they landed on and find the matching space in the center of the game board (for example, in one game you may land on an image of a trapezoid and you have to find its name in the center). Once students find the match, they cover it with their counter. Students have to get all of their counters onto the center game board spaces without getting "bumped" off by the other player.

Included with this Quadrilaterals Games Pack:

• Instructions for play

• 10 different quadrilaterals games (6 bump games and 4 three-in-a-row games)

Quadrilaterals covered: trapezoids, parallelograms, rectangles, rhombuses, and squares

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. Recognize right triangles as a category, and identify right triangles.
Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. For example, all rectangles have four right angles and squares are rectangles, so all squares have four right angles.
Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
