Description

This Math Activ Studio flipchart teaches students to classify and sort solid shapes. This lesson is aligned with the Houghton Mifflin Math Series, 7.5 - 1st grade. The lesson opens with the "Problem of the Day" in which students are given a word problem reviewing the concept of number sentences. Next, the flipchart states the daily objective, then reviews vocabulary terms needed to understand the content of the lesson: corner, face, edge, solid shape and plane shape, with visual examples of each. The next page displays both plane and solid shapes with their shape names. The next page allows students to interactively sort the solid shapes from the plane shapes, manipulating the objects on the Promethean Board. The next couple of activities allow students to identify shapes that roll and solids with a certain number of corners. Next, students must identify the faces, edges, and corners of each solid shape given. The students are then given a list of guided and individual work to complete (aligned with the textbook directions). The students are then given 1 review and 1 closure critical thinking question. Last, they are given a math journal entry that requires them to draw a solid shape and describe what it looks like.
