Description
Civic Literacy and Engagement Topics in the News (Close Listening Lessons)
This workbook includes five lessons focusing on civic literacy and civic engagement. Each lesson is based on a short NPR program or program segment focusing on a different topic related to civic literacy or engagement. In addition, each lesson includes two or three related programs for students to listen to and questions requiring students to make connections between the programs.
Use as a supplement in an American Government, Civics, Current Events, U.S. History or Life Skills course.
These lessons could also be assigned as extra credit work or used as emergency sub plans.
These lessons can be used independently or assigned as a workbook.
Links and QR codes to the audio segments and stories are included. Audio segments range in length from 4 minutes to 20+ minutes in length. I've included links to related stories for students wishing to study issues in greater depth. All stories focus on issues related to civic literacy and civic engagement.
Each lesson takes about 30 minutes to complete, depending on the length of the program. For some students, it may take longer.
