    Activity: Students make creative response to the works of such Canadian Indigenous Artists as - Norval Morrisseau, Daphne Odjig, Carl Rae, etc.

    Background: This X-Ray style originated with Norval Morrisseau, an Anishnaabe shaman artist. He has been credited with creating this X-Ray style of art. Many other Indigenous Artists have been influenced by Morrisseau's Woodlands Style of art. Born in Ontario, Morrisseau's subjects were inspired by Indigenous pictographs (drawings on rock.)     The teachings are connected to the: Eagle, Buffalo, Bear, Sabe/Sasquatch, Beaver, Wolf, Turtle

    Suggested Use of Templates: Learn about one teaching at a time. Print the animal template for that particular teaching. Have students create an artwork with that teaching at the focus in their thoughts. Ask students: "Which combinations of colours will you choose to show this particular teaching?" (Optional: incorporate a lesson on colour theory)

    Activity: Respond to the Canadian Indigenous X-Ray / Woodlands Style of Art. Do a Google Images Search of the artworks of Students make creative response to the works of such Canadian Indigenous Artists as - Norval Morrisseau, Daphne Odjig, Carl Rae, etc.

    How do students get started? Do a Google Images Search of "Norval Morrisseau coloring pages" for examples of how to start drawing with pencil.
