    Description

    Canada’s Government: High School Civics:

    This bundle of resources includes four of my government resources designed for students from grades 5 and up. I have modified a couple of the products for use by high school students (preferably for grades 9 and 10) and the other two can be used as is, at any grade level. Older students will need less explanation time and will already be familiar with some of the concepts but in the products themselves are appropriate for their grade level.

    Resources are updated as needed.

    The components of this bundle may be seen individually by clicking on the following links:

    Graphic Organizers and Task Cards

    T/F Warm-up or Review Activities

    The Federal System: 15 Graphic Organizers

    9 Government Webquests

    This bundle includes (for more details and lengthier previews, please click on the links above):

    1) Canada’s Government True or False Warm-up or Review Activities is a set of 8 true or false activities covering the following topics: (1) Our Federal System, (2) The Charter of Rights and Freedoms/The Judiciary (The Justice System), (3) The Senate/The House of Commons, (4) The Prime Minister/The Cabinet, (5) The Official Opposition/Members of Parliament, (6) How a Bill Becomes Law, (7) Elections in Canada, and (8) The Provinces and Territories.

    -- Each of the 8 sections has 10 statements which students are asked to identify as True or False. As indicated, four are definitely False and the students must choose the four and provide the True statement, i.e. explaining why each one is false. The activity is a good way to test student knowledge before you begin a topic or to use as a review. They can be used as research activities. They could even be included in a test.

    2) Canada’s Federal Government 15 Graphic Organizers

    This set of graphic organizers is designed to organize student learning of Canada’s federal system of government. For high school students, the organizers serve as a good tool for review and study purposes. All of them are designed so that you the teacher can assign topics for further research for any of the 15 organizers.

    The topics included are:

    The Federal System, The Sovereign/Governor General, The Justice System, The Charter of Rights and Freedoms, The Senate, The House of Commons, The Prime Minister, The Cabinet/Government Departments, The Official Opposition, Member of Parliament, Federal Responsibilities, How a Bill Becomes Law, Federal Elections, Citizenship, Provinces and Territories.

    3) Canada’s Governments – 9 Webquests

    This set of 9 webquest activities is designed to encourage students to use the websites of their own and other provinces, territories and municipalities The webquests vary somewhat in difficulty so are good for differentiation or group work and are challenging enough for students in grades 9-10. I like to provide flexibility for teachers and this product’s items can be used in any order, as individual or group activities, and can be used with interactive notebooks. The “Make Your Own Webquest” sheet can be used for provincial, territorial and municipal websites. Student-made webquests can then be completed by classmates.

    The webquests are:

    -- Your Province or Territory; Your Province or Territory - What’s on the Website?;

    -- Your Province or Territory - Compare it with Another;

    -- Provinces and Territories - Find the Facts; Your Municipality; -- Your Municipality - What’s on the Website?;

    -- Your Municipality - Compare it with Another;

    -- Your Municipality - The Environment; Make Your Own Webquest.

    4) Canada’s Government: Finding Our More… 10 Graphic Organizers and 40 Task Cards”. Ten topics are presented: Our System of Government, Our Head of State, Our Head of Government, The House of Commons, The Senate, The Federal Government, Provincial and Territorial Governments, Municipal Governments, Elections, and Citizenship.

    The graphic organizers are designed for teachers to use as an introductory tool for the 10 topics included. The topics/questions included in the box and the circle on the graphic organizer pages can be used for discussion points - there is no answer key for these statements or questions. They can be used as research topics for the student as well and are designed to be flexible to suit the needs of the teacher.

    The task cards can also be used as group work or for review and can be used by students in pairs or groups to quiz each other. There is an answer recording sheet with a cover (if needed) that students can use for their own study purposes or in group work. I have included a blank task card sheet if you wish to add some of your own. A cover for the students to use for their answer recording sheets is also provided. There is a full answer key (4 pages) for the task card questions.

    Answer keys are provided for all four resources and in some cases might be more detailed than you expect from your students, but I like to include as much information as possible for your reference.
