What educators are saying

I bought several "doodle wheel" resources for my students to use as graphic organizers, and all were fantastic. This sheet was a helpful reminder for my students who had a hard time remembering all the steps to create a box plot.

Description

Box and whisker plots just got more engaging!

Use this math wheel to introduce (or review) and practice reading box and whisker plots.

  • Students can keep this graphic organizer in their notebooks as a resource/study tool.

The sections of the wheel include the steps to create a box-and-whisker plot and an example section:

1) Order #s from least to greatest

2) Place points at smallest and largest values

3) Find the median; add point

4) Find the 1st and 3rd quartiles; add points

5) Draw box and whiskers

6) IQR and Example (use to answer the questions outside the circle)

Features of this easy-to-use resource:

  • Notes sections with examples (notes are just suggestions, and you can alter them or use other examples that better fit your instruction if you’d like).
  • In each section, students will find the points that are part of the box-and-whisker plot. As they move from one section to the next, they’ll need to add the points from the previous section, in addition to the newly identified points. In step 5, they’ll need to add all 5 points before drawing the box and whiskers.
  • Guided practice or individual practice: There are 9 questions in the pattern around the circle. These should be answered using the box-and-whisker example in the circle.
  • Coloring/doodling opportunity: students can color the background pattern, as well as the headings and doodle arrows
  • Key and sample with notes and examples in each wheel section
  • PPT file that's a blank wheel with background, so you can make your own math wheels, if you’d like (for classroom use only - not commercial use)
