Description

This is a complete lesson for teaching your students how to properly handle and use the microscope. Components of this lesson take students through names of microscope parts, functions of those parts, how to properly handle and use the microscope, how to calculate magnification, how to make a wet mount and a dry mount slide, how to view simple specimens such as the letter 'e', insect wing, thread, salt, or other available items for your students to view. The students will label a diagram, complete a matching page, and be evaluated by a quiz.

This lesson can be completed in 3 class periods.

Included are the following:

- Power point slides instructing students about how to make a wet mount and a dry mount slide
- Power point slides showing a labeled microscope for students to study, and an unlabeled picture for students to review and recall
- Handout: How to Properly Handle the Microscope - student note page which includes how to calculate the correct magnification of the specimen

- Practice Sheet: Students matching parts of the microscope to the function
- Drawing template: What I Saw in the Microscope guided page for students to draw what they see in the microscope
