Description

Adapted for Distance Learning.

Students will read different experimental scenarios and determine things like "What question are they trying to answer?", and What could be the hypothesis?".

The worksheet is offered as both PDF and a Word Document which is editable, and can be uploaded using Google Classroom, and students can type on the document, then submit.

I've also included a format perfect for a station activity to get students up and about, and can be spread around the room to keep social distancing.

Students will read each experiment and do the following:

- suggest a possible question the experiment was designed to answer

- suggest a possible, testable hypothesis

- suggest a list of equipment needed

- identify the control and constants

- identify the independent variable

- identify the dependent variable

The station cards contain the experimental scenario. A separate answer document is provided for students to carry with them and complete at each station.

The seat work adaptation has the experimental scenario and accompanying questions on the same page.

The students can work together to analyze the experiments, share suggestions, and critique each other's suggestions. This activity should take approximately 30 minutes for the students to complete.

This is a good review after they have learned the scientific method and have learned how to perform a valid experiment. I use this assignment when reviewing for a quiz, or the state standardized tests, and when reviewing for the semester exam.

I have included station posters you can print and hang to identify each station location.

Answer key and teacher notes are included.
