Description

This is a 21-slide power point designed to introduce AP World History students to the new Long Essay Question (LEQ) on the redesigned AP World History exam. The power point goes over all of the main points of the essay requirements/rubric and provides students with a basic template to follow when writing an LEQ. Some of the main points covered in the power point include the following:

-Basic info about the LEQ (time, scoring, college board description, etc...)
-Easy to follow rubric created in a table format
-Description of the Historical Thinking Skills that the essay could be based on
-Two example prompts for each historical thinking skill (comparison, causation, CCOT, periodization)
-A simplified template to follow for writing a five-paragraph LEQ

The power point also includes an example of how to write a high-bar thesis based on a fictional CCOT prompt about the development of the personal computer from 1975-2012. This example teaches students how to develop a good thesis for a LEQ based on a CCOT prompt that is something they are familiar with. The power point then concludes with students writing their own thesis paragraph on a CCOT prompt related to the Silk Road.
