Description
This bundle contains everything you need to launch and keep the momentum going in your AP Language Synthesis unit. Each resource helps your students visualize their thinking, organize writing, and understand the process to producing a solid synthesis essay. Multiple scaffolds include writing organizers, writing stems, and visual cue cards to understand the essay writing process.
This bundle contains two project-based learning experiences, each of 5-10 class periods, that combine skills for both the Synthesis and Argument essays. The "Safety v. Freedom" debate takes a past AP Lang Argument prompt and combines elements of Synthesis essay by giving students a list of curated resources to synthesize into their debate position writing. This is my students' favorite experience of the year and pushes students to write and research authentically, in preparation for a whole-class debate.
Another centerpiece of this bundle is a 5-10 day research / writing project that combines the Synthesis and Argument essays: The Prison Reform Synthesis Project. All resources are included to help your students think through, structure, and produce writing for this research / writing project.
Both of these project resources contain essay writing organizers ("thinking spaces") as a clear graphic organizer for students to plan their Synthesis essay. Video links for the synthesis essay are also included.
My students appreciate the visual representation of this essay as a way to support their writing and thinking process.
