STORY SUMMARY:
"In 'Grandfather's Legacy,' three cousins, Jake, Austin, and Veronica, were inseparable in their youth but grew apart as time passed. The death of their grandfather, the wise and playful Walter Granger, suddenly reunites them. As they gather for the reading of his will, they discover that their inheritance is linked to a series of riddles and hidden messages. Walter, with his enduring love for puzzles, games, and his family, had devised a plan to bring them back together. The cousins embark on a journey of solving riddles, dodging greedy relatives, searching for their inheritance, and rekindling lost friendships.
Why use short stories?
Short stories can be more manageable for students, while retaining their interest and still allowing them to hone essential reading comprehension skills. Students will work on vocabulary acquisition, identifying main ideas, summarizing, making inferences, making connections, making predictions, analyzing characters and plot, and more, in a much shorter, more focused context.
INCLUDED IN THIS UNIT:
Short Story Reading Pages
- The story is 5 pages long (split into 5 separate parts - each 1 page in length), so that you can seamlessly work on pre- and post-reading exercises throughout the story.
