This Christmas ESL movie guide lesson plan accompanies the movie "A Christmas Carol" and is ideal for your intermediate students. It targets listening and viewing comprehension.
A Christmas Carol recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an elderly miser who is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.
The product consists of:
- Students’ handout + teacher’s copy with keys (6 pages)
- Edited Movie is included! (it's a separate file)
Which exercises are in the handout?
- Pre-viewing exercises, introducing the new words from the movie
- Viewing activities, which include comprehension questions, listening for specific information, completing the sentences, completing the table, etc.
- Post-viewing activities, where students will have to write a letter, describing the events of the movie.
The movie is divided into several parts, each one is separated from the other with the screensaver. After watching each part students do the tasks and discuss what they have seen. All you have to do is to press “pause” and do the exercises with the students.
The video lasts 25 minutes and with doing all exercises the lesson will take 1 hour.
