What educators are saying
Description
This word wall focuses on the etymology of math vocabulary to build students terminology used in math and the understanding of math concepts. Knowing the meaning behind root words can help students gain a better understanding of the word and help them remember the math concepts associated with the word.
For example the latin word 'vert' means to turn. This root word is used to create the words vertex, inverse, vertical, and conversion. If we take the word vertical we see the definition 'turned at a right angle to a horizontal plane'. In this definition we see the root word vert and meaning to turn. Students can understand the concept better as they physically turn the horizontal number line that most students are familiar with vertically.
I used reading research and math terminology to create a product that integrated reading into my math classroom. I believe every child can read and they are never too late to learn. Student with dyslexia and specific learning disabilities in reading need every teacher and every class to ensure they are successful readers.
This product is not only for teachers and students struggling in reading. As students become better readers and understand etymology (meaning of root words) they also do better in math. They are able to have a better grasp of math concepts and see how different topics are related to each other through the meaning of similar word parts.
Included in this product:
